Elizabeth Founded Your Choice Home Care on the premise to help our vulnerable and elderly community.
There is an old saying that goes, “It’s not work if you love what you do”. Your Choice Home Care’s owner, who happens to be an RN, truly loves what she does. She actually used to provide home care to the elderly for free! It was only fitting to turn what she loved into a business so she can reach even more people.
Elizabeth Young acknowledges that she was created to care for our older and disabled community. She feels morally obligated and driven to serve this vulnerable population.
Our Story
Why We Do What We Do
Your Choice Home Care was founded on the premise that it takes a village to care for our geriatric and disabled community. Our agency extends the care that the family is already providing to allow rest and reassurance for the burnt out caregiver. The owner has personal experiences from being a home health and hospice nurse since 2003 as well as watching and assisting her mom care for her terminally ill father in 2012.
Most home care agencies offer the usual bathing, changing diapers, and preparing meals. And, of course, we do that too but there is so much more to elder care than those things. There is an old saying that goes, “It’s not work if you love what you do”. I really used to do this for free! I can remember doubling back to a patient’s home with my 2 children in tow, to wash their car and tidy up their house. Her husband tried to pay us but I confidently told him their gratitude was payment enough for me. From cooking meals to surprising them with their favorite cookies, I have taken pride in being the person who brightens my elderly patient’s day. I have always been fulfilled by listening to the stories of when they were younger. The average person might simply see just an old person but not me. I love to hear the stories of what they did when they were younger… boyfriends and girlfriends, careers, places they traveled… the stories of their life.
The core values and respect that I have for our seniors are relayed to all of my caregivers. They cannot work for Your Choice Home Care if they do not take pride in serving our clients. So yes, we can give your loved one a bath but we can also play games with them. We can sing and dance with them (I really do this)! We can sit on the porch and just watch nature with them. Our goal is to improve their golden years by keeping them as independent, safe, and sociable as possible.
